Naked man stops DeKalb traffic

A man standing naked on a road in downtown DeKalb briefly stopped traffic Monday before he was taken into police custody.
Around 9:35 a.m., a white male who looked to be in his middle to late 20s was standing completely nude in the middle of East Lincoln Highway. He jumped on the hoods of cars and flailed his arms. When a DeKalb Police squad car pulled up, the man opened the back door and hopped in.
The man was held for about an hour at the police station, 200 S. Fourth St., until an ambulance arrived to take him to Kishwaukee Community Hospital for evaluation, DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler said Monday morning.
"It seems to be a mental case, and there are no charges against him," Spangler said. "We’ve seen this kind of thing before."
Onlookers in storefronts and on sidewalks along Lincoln Highway stared as the man was driven away by officers.
Spangler declined to name the man, since charges are not being pressed, and the hospital said it could not comment on his condition because of privacy laws.
