New curtains and a book nook

We finally got up our new curtains. The bamboo circles are the Hultelt Drapes from IKEA. The lace panels over them I got on a super clearance steal from Brylane Home for about $4 a panel. You know how much I love a deal!

These are hanging on our sliders in the dining area and also in the living area.

Also, my new favorite spot in the house...my reading corner.

I have been wanting a globe for a loooong time and I found this one at TJ Maxx for $30. I love that it's black because I had never seen a black one before.

1st floor bathroom

Yesterday Josh and I painted our downstairs bathroom, put in a shower curtain, valance and rug. There are still some accessories that I want to add but it's mostly done. Pictures below.

Check your neck!

January is thyroid awareness month so check your neck and talk to your doctor if you have any concerns that your thyroid is out of whack. Remember, friends don't let friends have a high TSH so pass this info along. It annoys me to hear that thyroid cancer is the "good cancer to get", but it is highly curable as long as you get help in time.

Join my Relay Team!

Dear friends and family,

As you know, my life has been hugely impacted by a nasty disease called cancer. On November 3rd, 2005 I received my cancer diagnosis of Stage III papillary/follicular thyroid cancer. After surgeries and radiation, I was able to kick it into remission where I have been since July 13th 2006. But having thyroid cancer has changed my life and not for the better. Although it's seen by most people as "the good cancer", the after effects of thyroid cancer are different than other cancers because I have to live without a critical part of my metabolism...the thyroid. Although thyroid cancer is highly curable, I would like to see more people get screened for it and research done to see what can be done to prevent thyroid cancer.

As you may also know, I lost my Dad on November 27th 2009 after his short but courageous battle with lung cancer. Lung cancer not only took a wonderful man from this world, but a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend away from the people who love him so dearly. One of the things I really like about the American Cancer Society is their stop smoking campaign. My Dad was a life-long smoker and sadly it is that addiction to nicotine that took him from us. I will do anything I can to contribute to finding a cure for lung cancer so that not one more daughter has to feel the pain that my sister Cassandra and I do. This year I Relay for not only myself but in my honor of my Dad.

I am writing to ask you to get involved in this year's Relay for Life on June 25th 2010 at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva. Please join my team and walk with us to fight cancer. I am trying to get as many people signed up before January 19th as I can. It will just take you a couple of minutes to sign up and it doesn't cost you a cent. Relay is a lot of fun. They have music, food, fireworks and a great sense of community every year so what do you have to lose by giving it a try? Please join in the fun of Relay help us raise some money for the American Cancer society. To join my team, please click on this link: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/teamsparklefluff

If you don't have the time to join my Relay team, please consider supporting my fundraising efforts by making a donation to the American Cancer Society. Any amount helps! You can do this by clicking this link: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/meganorr
